Halong Bay among top green spaces in Asia

Recently, the Agoda.com has released a list of top eight national parks/green spaces in Asia and it is a great honor for Halong Bay to have its name on the 4th position.

The list covers national parks which are suitable for hiking or outdoor activities and green spaces in the middle of a city which offer important historical context. The result is based on feedbacks of customers and analysis of booking information on the website.

Along with Halong Bay, seven other green spaces/national parks in the list are Hallasan National Park (South Korea), Taroko National Park (Taiwan), Osaka Castle Park (Japan), Ang Thong National Marine Park (Thailand), Khao Yai National Park (Thailand), Penang National Park (Malaysia), and Rizal Park (Philippines).

Located in Northern Vietnam, Halong Bay is a favorite destination among travelers to this region. The Bay covers the area of 1,553km² and encompasses 1,969 islands of various sizes, 989 of which have been given names. It borders Cat Ba Island to the south-west, the mainland to the west with a 120km-long coastline.

Islands in Halong Bay include two types of limestone and schist. This is the result of geological movement from mainland into sea about 500 million years ago. The long process of geological evolution created the unique Halong Bay in the world with thousands of islands which look like fantastic sculptural and artistic works of various graceful shapes.

With outstanding aesthetic, geographical – geomorphologic values, Halong Bay was recognized by UNESCO as World Natural Heritage twice times in 1994 and 2000. The bay was also listed as one of new seven nature wonders of the world by New7Wonders Organization in 2011.
